Priory...not a Rectory!

A PRIORY is the smallest, complete unit of governance within the Dominican Order  (aka Order of Preachers).

It is where a community of Dominican friars lives, prays, and governs itself.

The friars living in a priory may engage in a wide range of ministries nearby.  The superior is called a prior and he is obedient to his provincial.

A RECTORY is where a diocesan priest lives and is often located next to the parish to which he is assigned by his bishop.

The Priory on a recent gloomy, wintery day.  Unusual for Denver!
